Albany City Lodge of the Knights of Pythias
has found another way to contribute to the
welfare of the Double H Ranch Summer Camp.
In addition to the generous cash
contributions to the Camp, Albany City Lodge
provides much more through their sweat and
toil and the Camp.
Each summer a group of
their members arrives at the camp prepared
to attend to maintenance chores around the
camp. This July their project was to weed
the Arboretum,
a garden where the campers can find a
quiet spot to meditate as well as pay
tribute to a fellow camper and friend who
has passed away. They spent much of the day
on hands and knees weeding the flowerbeds
and pathways.
Linda Smith
Individual Programs Officer of Double H
Ranch was quoted as saying, “How refreshing
it is to be with a group of volunteers who
attack the tasks at hand with such wonderful
humor and a zest for life”.
Albany City Lodge
returns this October for an additional
housekeeping project as the Camp prepares
for the fall/winter programs at the Camp.
“In
2012 we look forward to celebrating our 20th
Anniversary with the Knights of Pythias.
The
Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias
share a similar mission to ours - to give
children with illness the opportunity to
experience the thrills of summer camp. For
the past four years the Albany City Lodge
#540 has sponsored our campers and have
spread the magic to Laurel Conqueror Lodge
#451 and the
Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias
of the Domain of New York who have sponsored
our campers for the last two years. Many
members have taken the time to visit the
camp and it will be the
third year members of the Albany City Lodge
have joined us for our spring and fall
Helping Hands Work Days cleaning, gardening
and raking as we ready the grounds for the
next season. Together, with the support of
organizations like the Knights of Pythias
who share in our mission, we will continue
to deliver the ‘the best week of my year’ to
children who would not otherwise experience
the thrill of summer camp in the
Adirondacks.”
